Yvonne gets married
"The spirits in SocialWork 2000 were lifted in July when Yvonne from our High Wycombe Office was married to Steve Harlow. We are all now getting used to her new name Yvonne Harlow. The bride looked stunning and she has found a delightful partner in Steve to share her life with. The couple were joined by their son Alfie on their honeymoon in Lanzarote. How time flies and Yvonne is already back in full swing at work. We would all like to wish Yvonne and her family well for the future. A radiant Jo and James joined in the celebrations."
Upcoming Training Event

Just a reminder that the next of our popular training events is coming up soon. We do still have some places. Chris Anderson and Pete Slater will be leading the training.

MPs demand overhaul of social work training

MPs have called for an overhaul of the system of social work training at all levels describing it as "not fit for purpose".

The children, schools and families select committee said newly qualified social workers were often unprepared for the cases they were given, while more experienced practitioners were not receiving sufficient post-qualifying training.

We reported last month that James attended a select committee hearing in June. The report has now been published and is well worth a read. Click here to read report.

On the 30th September 2009, Skills for Care would like to welcome you to join them at the 4th Skills for Care London Annual Conference at Westminster Central Hall. This year’s topic is ‘The Workforce Speaks: Learning in action with London’s adult social care employers’.

The conference will provide an opportunity to learn about the work being undertaken in London, and hear from the individuals who have contributed to, and benefited from their regional programme of workforce development activities over the past year. The Joint Improvement Partnership (JIP) will be supporting the event, and this year the guests include keynote speakers: Barbara Pointon MBE, Ian Winter - Deputy Regional Director for Social Care at the Department of Health, and Moira Gibb CBE – Chief Executive, London Borough of Camden, and Chair of the Social Work Taskforce.

There will also be an opportunity to participate in discussions about regional development in workshops throughout the day. Workshops confirmed to date include the Qualifications & Credit Framework, World Class Apprenticeships, Action Learning and Dementia Care Mapping. GSCC online portal

The GSCC have introduced an online, self service portal for registrants, all designed to make things easier. We at SocialWork 2000 have not had an opportunity to test it ourselves yet but would welcome feedback from our locums, info@socialwork2000.co.uk

The GSCC is pleased to introduce an online, self-service portal for registrants – ‘MyGSCC’.

This new and interactive service lets you take control of updating your records with the GSCC.

By using this system you can update any changes to your personal details, pay your annual fee online, record your post-registration training and learning (PRTL), and use the portal to send the GSCC information, saving you both time and money. The portal will also reduce the amount of paper they send you, so it is good for the environment too!

The portal is a secure system. Every user is issued with a unique login, so you can be assured that nobody else will have access to your personal information. Any changes or payments made by you are sent and processed via an encrypted secure system directly to their servers. them at online.queries@gscc.org.uk stating your registration number and your date of birth, and they will send you your login details.

They are striving to improve the registration process, and hope you find this new service helpful and easy to use.
