Emma sings solo at Rock Choir
Our Recruitment Team Manager Emma Blaker recently hit the stage as part of a performance by her local Rock Choir group. Like many members of the group, Emma had never sung in public before, but gave us a belting rendition of 'You Can't Hurry Love' by Phil Collins at the Grove Theatre in Dunstable.

Emma's partner, her family, friends and work colleagues were all in attendance to offer moral support.

Emma said afterwards that once she had overcome her initial nerves, she thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would recommend it to others.

As part of the performance a video montage was shown that highlighted the many benefits of joining Rock Choir. People old and young, some with no previous singing experience gave their own perspectives on why Rock Choir works for them. There was a general feeling that it can help alleviate stresses and strains after a hard day at work, and provides an opportunity to meet new friends.

More about Rock Choir:

Established in 2005, Rock Choir offers the general public an opportunity to sing pop, gospel and Motown songs, without the need for previous singing experience and no auditions. It offers fun and entertaining weekly rehearsals using contemporary well-known hit songs but with an exhilarating range of original vocal arrangements and performance elements which appeal to both the member taking part and the audience watching.

Many of the members have never sung in public and are given the opportunity to perform at local events and venues, as part of the Rock Choir experience. It can offer fun, laughter, companionship and most of all the enjoyment of singing with friends.

Described by the media as the 'people's choir' and a 'national phenomenon', Rock Choir has appeared on BBC Breakfast News, CBS News, the Paul O'Grady Show, the Daily Telegraph, Sunday Times, Daily Express and many more.

August Bank Holiday is upon us!

Well, here we are, almost at the end of August - where has this year gone. Someone once told me that to acknowledge the fast movement of time is to acknowledge that one is getting older! I'm not sure I want to acknowledge that, so maybe I'll keep quiet next year!

The Bank Holiday weekend will hopefully provide most of you with the opportunity to relax and to take a well-earned break from work. Let's hope the sun makes an appearance!

We would like to thank all our locums for their hard work and loyalty, and trust that you and everyone who reads this newsletter will have the chance for some enjoyment, and to recharge your batteries.

Take care!
Vicki

Locum Social Event: MK Dons vs.. West Ham United

SocialWork 2000 staff and locums recently enjoyed a night out to watch a local friendly at the Stadium:MK. Locums old and new accompanied Mags and Vicki from the MK office to watch the MK Dons host a match against West Ham United.

Although the evening was rather dark and quite cold, it was nevertheless a dry evening...good news for those of us without a jacket!! Bags of pick n' mix were a welcome sight to many locums who had negotiated the endless roundabouts of MK as well as the rush hour traffic to join us. Needless to say, the sweets didn't last long!!

The Dons put up on a good show, but were sadly beaten (depending on your point of view!) by the stronger Hammers 2-0. With the attendance announced at 12,230, the atmosphere in the stadium was buzzing, and our locums thoroughly enjoyed the event.

Here are some of their comments below:

"Just to say thanks to all for last night. It was good; I enjoyed seeing the stadium, although I think I spent most of the match gossiping to Vicki!!" Rachel Smith

"Shelli, could you please thank everyone who participated in arranging the MK Dons event. Gemma and I really enjoyed the evening. I don't know how it happened but at one point I had three bags of sweets on my lap. Oh it was so difficult not to eat them all. Oh and thank you for the Dogs do as well." Pauline Meredith

"I just want to say thank you for a very enjoyable evening last night. It was good to meet old friends while also making new acquaintances." David Charles

We look forward to hosting the next locum social event at the Comedy Club in Luton on 2nd November 2010.

If you have any ideas about the types of events you would like to see hosted, please email Shelli.
