Newsletter - December 2007
Happy Christmas from us all at SocialWork 2000
2007 is rapidly coming to an end. We have enjoyed a really busy year here at SocialWork 2000. We are delighted with the transition to e-newsletters and a more interactive Website and trust that you find both valuable. We would like to thank all our locums for their hard work throughout the year. For our own social workers and indeed all social workers reading this you should feel proud of the service which you continue to deliver to your clients. Although work does not necessarily stop I trust you will find a little time for yourself and your families and recharge before we enter the Leap Year of 2008.

Research Protocol Writing for Social Workers
The Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College London, are developing an eLearning course for social workers who are interested in doing a modest piece of practitioner research but have no experience in writing research proposals.

This 12-week course will help you to write a research question, consider appropriate methods for answering it and prepare a proposal that will withstand scrutiny at research ethics or research governance committees. This course will also provide online teaching materials on research methods and statistics. Further information about the course can be found here.
 Submissions from Locums
This month we are delighted to include two submissions from our locum staff. The first, from social worker Rachel Irven, describes her travels courtesy of 5W (Women Welcome Women Worldwide). The second, from Heather Oddy, talks about the variety of work she has undertaken through SocialWork2000.

Rachel Irven writes... Are you interested in International Friendship? I belong to a women's organisation called 'Women Welcome Women World Wide' (shortened to 5W). This is based in High Wycombe and was started by a local woman, Frances Alexander. Twenty three years ago she began the organisation as a way of facilitating friendships between women around the world, and currently the organisation has nearly 3000 members from every continent in the world (except for Antarctica!).

Heather Oddy writes...I am so pleased to have been working for SocialWork2000 from September '06 as the team has provided me with the security of regular and interesting work and the team have always been available to give help and advice when needed.

 Free SocialWork 2000 Calendar
This calendar is without doubt our most popular promotional item. Measuring 21cm x 15cm it sits perfectly on your office desk and enables you to plan your hectic schedule at a glance. We distribute these to our locums and clients as a Christmas gift. The phone calls always rain in during January with requests for this item. This year we are reserving 300 copies for readers of our e newsletter. These will be distributed on a first come first served basis. Simply email us on mail@socialwork2000.co.uk and we will send you a copy.
 Business over the Christmas Period
Employees of SocialWork 2000 will be enjoying a well earned break over the Christmas period. Our offices in Milton Keynes and High Wycombe will be closed from 5pm on Friday 21st December and will reopen on Wednesday 2nd January. We have written to all our locums with arrangements for pay. We will of course be running a service for Emergencies and Urgent Calls. Any registrations over the Web will be responded to at the earliest opportunity.
