Happy Christmas from us all at Socialwork 2000
We are now entering a new decade for SocialWork 2000 and a new decade for the social work profession. Every Christmas I look back at all the positives and set our sights on the year ahead and all the opportunities that lie there. A year ago I commented that the social work profession had taken quite a bashing during 2009. Sadly that bashing did not really let up during 2010. A reduction in revenue to local authorities has meant that all services have come under severe scrutiny. Front line social work services are no exception and the pressure to reduce services at a time when the demand for those services is simultaneously increasing, puts us all under severe pressure. At a stroke, organisations which provide us with a stable infrastructure are cut completely.

It is not easy to predict the shape the profession will take in the years ahead but we have to show courage and stick to our core values as we move forward.

The great positives are the pride I continue to feel in the achievements of the SocialWork 2000 team. We have a great set of locums who have worked hard throughout the year and have done a remarkable job in adverse circumstances. Our own teams in High Wycombe and Milton Keynes have kept their spirits up and devoted themselves to offering you all the best service.

We are but a small cog in the whole social work machine but in our own area I believe that the size of that cog is quite significant. The quality and commitment of our team gives me great optimism for the future. A big thank you for the part which you have played in another successful year. I do hope that you will have the opportunity to take a little time for yourself and your families and recharge the batteries before enthusiastically taking on the new year.

Mince Pie Run

This month the team have been out on the annual mince pie run delivering pies, diaries, calendars and presents to all our locums at their places of work - as a very very small token of our appreciation for the work which they do. Shelli and Nikki have worked very hard to coordinate what in itself is now quite a large project. The whole of our team have been out on the road to ensure that every locum receives a visit. It is with great sincerity that I can share with you how proud I feel of the people who are out there working for SocialWork 2000. I do not want to mention names but we encountered smiling faces and confident individuals who rightly and proudly represent the social work profession. Many of these people we have known right from the very early days, people who have grown and developed, and who present themselves with great confidence and great stature. You are all a great tribute to us.

Locum Social Event: Comedy Night at Havana

SocialWork 2000 staff and locums recently enjoyed a night out to watch a variety of comedians at Havana in St Albans. This is a fabulous entertainment venue right in the heart of this historic city.

The quality of the acts was surprisingly high, and despite being right at the front and confessing to being social workers, we thoroughly enjoyed the night; it was just the laugh we all needed after a hard day at work!

Here are some of the comments we received below:

'I had a great night at the comedy show'. Ruth Carter

'Thank you for inviting us out for an enjoyable night out. Myself and Uche had a good time'. Muneni Waterman

We look forward to hosting the next locum social event at the Comedy Club in Bedford, to watch Sarah Millican on 23rd February 2011.

Free SocialWork 2000 Calendar 2011

The SocialWork 2000 calendar is without doubt our most popular promotional item.

This year our calendar has been designed to mark our joining together with Amicus Recruit. It features a set of recognisable bridges from the United Kingdom and around the world. These symbolise the bridges which have already been successfully built between our two organisations. Together we expect to be able to provide clients and locums with improved opportunities.

Already we have almost completed deliveries. There are a few remaining so we will send them out on a first come first served basis.

Simply email Nikki and we will send you a copy.

Business over the Christmas Period

Most employees of SocialWork 2000 will be taking a well earned break over the Christmas period. Our offices in Milton Keynes and High Wycombe will close on Friday 24th December at lunchtime. The High Wycombe office will be open on Wednesday 29th and Thursday 30th December. The Milton Keynes office will be open on Wednesday 29th through to Friday 31st December. Both offices will be open again on Tuesday 4th January.

We will of course be running a service for emergencies and urgent calls throughout the holiday period. Any registrations over the web will be responded to at the earliest opportunity.

We have written to all our locums with arrangements for pay. The key deadline is:

Wednesday 29th Dec 10am for payment on Friday 31st Dec

All timesheets after that deadline will be paid on Friday 7th January 2011
