| Katie Park |
|

We are very much looking forward to Katie Park joining our company at the beginning of February. She is going to be based at our Milton Keynes office as a Recruitment Adviser. Here is a lovely little snapshot from Katie giving you a little more detail about the experience she will bring to our organisation.
"I am starting work with SocialWork 2000 / 3d Recruit in February and I am very excited about the prospect. I have specialised in recruitment for nearly 5 years and I am pleased to be joining, what I consider to be the most reputable social work agency.
My previous work history includes working directly for Social Services in a Family Support Team, working for the NHS for a Child & Adolescent Mental Health Team, working in A&E as a Hospital Play Specialist, working in Education within a Behaviour Support Team, and working in Switzerland in a ski resort.
On a personal note, I thoroughly enjoy most outdoor activities, whether that be snowboarding/skiing, sailing, or simply flying a power kite or going for a bike ride.
I love travelling and exploring in a VW camper, going wherever the mood and weather takes me!
Those who know me well would consider me to be grounded, open minded and keen to take on new challenges.
I am looking forward to joining the team."

College Recruits Prospective Members |
|

Readers of the Social Work press will see that there is quite a debate developing between BASW and The College of Social Work.
Indeed the very title is in dispute. At this stage we have not formed a view on the best direction but hope that the debate will result in a positive outcome. Sitting on the fence for the moment but the profession does need unity as it moves forward in challenging times.
The newsletter invites prospective members to register.

| BASW confirms launch of own college of social work |
The British Association of Social Workers has confirmed it will launch a rival to the College of Social Work on Monday.
Community Care revealed last week that BASW intended to rebrand as "BASW - the College of Social Work" and promote itself as an alternative to the similarly named College of Social Work (under development as part of the social work reform programme in England).
The Association has today confirmed that it will go ahead with its plans, despite concerns that this could lead to fragmentation within the profession.

| The College of Social Work Business As Usual |
|
In light of BASW's recent announcement, setting out its intentions to create a rival College of Social Work, we would like to reassure all social workers and other website visitors that we are firmly committed to building a College of which the profession can be proud.
We would like to make it clear that it is this College of Social Work that continues to establish an organisation capable of meeting the challenges set for it by the Social Work Task Force in its report Building a Safe, Confident Future...

We hope that social workers will join us today as Prospective Members to help us take forward this important work. We want to work with BASW, not against them, and we will be seeking ways to resolve this situation and reinstate the convergence talks with The College of Social Work.
Open letter to BASW members from The College of Social Work
We are fully aware that recent developments are in danger of dividing and confusing social workers. This is why we've decided to send an open letter to all...

| BASW demands College of Social Work relinquishes name |
|

Battle lines have been drawn over who has the legal right to use the "College of Social Work" name.
The British Association of Social Workers has revealed it registered the company name "College of Social Work" in February 2010, at around the time it announced a controversial referendum of members on how the college should be shaped and run.
Now BASW's UK chair, Fran Fuller, has written to the co-chairs of the College of Social Work, Corinne May-Chahal and Maurice Bates, demanding that they "cease to use this title forthwith".
