Summer Holidays

School Summer holidays are now upon us and this is the time of year when many of us choose to take an annual holiday. At SocialWork 2000 we would like to wish you a well earned break ~ a chance to recharge your batteries and come back refreshed for the Autumn.
Effective Recording in Children's Services

All practitioners working in children's social services are involved in recording. Recording is an essential part of the service provided to children and families. Although recording is not an activity that is approached with enthusiasm by many practitioners, most recognise its importance. Case recording supports good practice in a number of ways.

If you were not able to attend Pauline Meredith’s recent workshop on Report Writing but are interested in tips and ideas for developing your Recording Practice this is an excellent Website which has been recommended to us by our locums.

Safeguarding Future Generations

Government guidance on child sexual exploitation promotes the dual aim of protecting victims and prosecuting abusers. Local partnerships have considerable expertise in safeguarding young people but there has been little consideration of their role in challenging perpetrators. This seminar reports on a recent Home Office-funded scoping exercise that explored ways of gathering evidence and found a significant role for children's services and other agencies with contact with young people. The seminar looks at ways to identify children and young people 'at risk' and to intervene and disrupt exploitative activity and prosecute those responsible.

Post-Registration Training and Learning

One of the benefits which SocialWork 2000 offers is the endorsement of your re-registration. This has been a very busy period and we have been gradually working our way through all the forms.

How do I log my PRTL?
The GSCC requires you to store the information about your PRTL in a document called a Record of Achievement. This document will be submitted to the GSCC at the end of your registration period to demonstrate that you have met the criteria for re-registration.

You can store this information in any way you like – on paper, or as an electronic document. However, the Record of Achievement needs to contain some specific information in order for the GSCC to accept it.

This information includes:

- your name and social care registration number
- your employers' name and address
- the exact start and end dates of your registration period
- the grand total of all your PRTL hours
- your signature
- your manager or employer’s signature

Community Care have a very informative website and there is a PRTL Zone where you can record your Training Log online. Please click here to let us know if you have used this and find it useful.
Report Writing Skills Workshop

On Tuesday 8 July, SocialWork 2000 hosted a Report Writing Skills workshop delivered by Pauline Meredith, a experienced practitioner and Team Manager.

The workshop considered the components of a good report, how to produce reports that are clear and succinct, construct arguments, prepare summaries and write recommendations.

18 people attended and enjoyed lively discussion with a break for croissants, pastries and fruit to sustain them until lunch!

Due to the popularity of the event we will run the workshop again in the autumn.

Newsletter Articles

Over the last few months we have received several articles from locums which we have published in our e-newsletter.
