The Children, Schools and Families Committee was established on 6 November 2007 and membership nominated on 8 November 2007. The formal remit of the Committee is to examine the administration, expenditure and policy of the Department for Children, Schools and Families. The Committee's remit also covers the work of Ofsted and non-departmental public bodies.
On 24th June, James Brown had the honour of attending a Select Committee inquiry into the training of children's social workers as a witness. Other members of the panel were Sue Berelowitz (Deputy Children's Commissioner),

Enid Hendry (Head of Training, NSPCC) and Cathy Ashley (Chief Executive, Family Rights Group). The Minister, Baroness Morgan, also gave evidence. Kate Thompson and several members of ASWEB joined James to support him on the day. This was a first for a Social Work agency to be invited to contribute their views to a parliamentary debate and we hope it is the beginning of a continuing dialogue.
