Calendar Girls

On 23rd October SocialWork 2000 Locums and Staff attended the stage adaptation of Calendar Girls at the Wycombe Swan.

The phenomenon of the Calendar Girls was inspired by the untimely death of the husband of a Women's Institute member in Yorkshire in 1998.

During his illness her friends planned to raise money, initially with the aim of purchasing a sofa for the visitors' lounge in the hospital and, somewhere along the line, the ladies hit on the idea of posing for a calendar.

The subject matter was a classic WI calendar, with jams, cakes and sewing - except for one thing…the ladies were all nude!

The 2000 Alternative WI Calendar was a runaway success, resulting in the ladies raising more than a million pounds for Leukaemia Research, the UK's leading blood cancer charity.

Calendar Girls became a hugely popular and award winning film in 2003 and now the story has been turned into a stage play with a star studded cast including Lynda Bellingham, Patricia Hodge, and Sian Phillips.

The team had a rapturous evening and witnessed some exceptional performances at the same time as taking the opportunity to catch up with each other.

"…the Calendar Girls was a great choice and I really enjoyed meeting new people with similar work interests." Heather Oddy

Maggie Leaving

After nearly nine years of service to SW2K Maggie Whymark will be leaving the company in December.

The first locum social worker to work for SW2K, Maggie moved comfortably into recruitment and set up the Milton Keynes office in 2003 developing a team which now includes three Recruitment Advisers, an Administrator and a Recruitment Team Manager.

Overseeing recruitment across both Milton Keynes and High Wycombe offices, her move to Business Manager in 2005 brought her into a key development role within the company, working alongside James Brown.

In April 2007, Maggie established her own limited company to develop new interests and continued to provide consultancy to the company, maintaining our links with social work education and PQ development and most recently, assisting the company by providing management support whilst Emma Blaker has been on maternity leave.

We know that there will be many people who have worked with Maggie over the years who will join us in wishing her all the very best. As she will be continuing to develop her own training and consultancy services we hope that Maggie will continue to assist us with projects in the future.
