It's been touring for 50 years but if you imagine that West Side Story is showing its age then think again.
The language used by the show's street gangs does sound quaintly old fashioned - they have "a rumble" instead of a fight and call adults "daddy-o" as though it's some kind of insult - there's no hint of rap or swearing.
At a time when gang warfare, tragic teen knife deaths and inter-race hostility is so frequently in the news, this tale of love and racial hatred among the Sharks and Jets of New York couldn't be more topical.
Created by the combined brains of Jerome Robbins, Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim from a book by Arthur Laurents, it took nine years to make the American stage and opened to mixed reviews.
But audiences everywhere took the musical to their hearts and last month our best ever attendance for a SocialWork 2000 Theatre Evening came to Milton Keynes Theatre and had the chance to experience its magic.
"Thank you so much for the theatre, it was a great show and a blast. I thoroughly enjoyed myself!!" - Jasvir
"Once again such a brilliant performance and a very enjoyable evening. It’s lovely to meet staff and locums, thanks to you all for such a great time and can't wait for the next." - Heather
Our next trip will be to Calendar Girls at the Wycombe Swan on 30th October
