SocialWork 2000 are Investors in People
On 10th Sept 2009 SocialWork 2000 underwent a thorough review of our Investors in People status and are delighted to announce our successful recognition. Paul Temple, our assessor from Quality South East is pictured on the day with James, Jo and Emma.

The exercise is far from a formality and we learned a great deal from the experience and are looking forward to maintaining and developing our standards. To find out more about Investors in People visit their website.

On 12th September Mags and Kate set off with their friend Kerry on a midnight sponsored walk over 10 miles of the streets of Bedford. Together with 500 other participants they were raising funds for the Keech Cottage children’s hospice.

Looking very fetching with their bunny ears they received the attention of several Bedford revellers wending their way home on a Saturday night. Completing the course in 3 hours 15 minutes the freshly cooked bubble and squeak at the end was a reward worth striving for.

Well done to our Milton Keynes team!

Ads to fight stigma of social work after Baby P case
A new government advertising campaign aims to combat the stigma attached to social workers since the Baby P case and to attract recruits to the profession.

The Department for Children, Schools and Families has signed up stars for the campaign including Sadie Frost; the former EastEnders actor Michelle Ryan; the About A Boy actor Nicholas Hoult; the musician Goldie, who himself turned to social workers during his childhood; and Emilia Fox of the BBC crime drama Silent Witness

In case you haven't seen them, here are the links to the videos and articles.

One minute in the life of Irvine Byer...

In this regular feature we find out a little bit more about the locums who work for us. Please email Vicki if you would like to be featured.

Irvine has been with SocialWork 2000 for over 5 years and has just completed a contract with Bedfordshire and Luton Partnership Trust. He travels each day from Leicester which makes him our northernmost locum. He clearly wants to go south south south for his desert island.

Who would you take with you to a desert island and why?
My kids and mother. Why? They go where I go. Though! I wouldn’t mind taking Karl Marx as well. Why? Be a great education and be a great essay. Before I forget! I would have taken Ray Mears as well. Three guesses why.

If you could choose a superpower what would it be?
Slow down time.

Where is your favourite place to eat?
Anywhere with good company but mind you! I like my front room too when no one is around.

What is your favourite film?
Science fiction type things. Babylon 5 is a good start.

Are you a cat or a dog person?
2 legs good. 4 legs bad! Sorry.

Do you eat cold cereal at night?
Yuck! Don’t do cereal or milk.

Kill the spider or let it out?
Spiders useful. Eats bugs, unless in Australia.

If you could be someone else for a day who would you be?
I like me warts, grey hair, wonky eyes etc. Never wanted to be anyone else.

Where is your favourite place?
My Home sounds good to me but anywhere with good company, free food and preferably somewhere HOT HOT HOT.

What would wear to a fancy dress party?
Something from the 70s, flared trousers, stack heels, bright BRIGHT shirt with big collars but no medallion.

Which song would you sing at Karaoke?
Redemption song (Bob Marley)

What makes you laugh?
If you've ever seen Chris Rock in stand up comedy you will know what makes me laugh.

What makes you cry?
I don’t do CRY but if I did it would be flies crawling in and out of the mouths of disadvantaged kids and emaciated bodies of women in war ravaged/famine environments.

Are you an indoor or an outdoor person?
I like out when its warm and in when its cold. Don’t think about it for too long.

Describe yourself in 3 words?
Sincere, boring, humanist.
