In September 2007 a new revised PQ framework for social work was implemented. The PQ framework involves core and optional modules/units and is open to other professions (interprofessional). The framework entails the choice of obtaining individual 'stand alone', 'generic' (some also span those working with Adults and Children), specific academic modules/units or completing relevant specialisms.
The qualifications are academic with the relevant national occupational standards integrated within them. The revised PQ framework is made up of three progressive levels:
* PQ Award in Specialist Social Work (evidence of competence in depth)
* PQ Award in Higher Specialist Social Work (evidence of a
substantially enhanced level of competence)
* PQ Award in Advanced Social Work (evidence of an ability to take a
leading role)
The five main specialisms are:
* Adults, their Carers and their Families (Adult services)
* Children and Young People, their Families and Carers (children and
families)
* Leadership and management
* Mental Health social work
* Mentoring, Practice Teaching and Assessment (Practice educator)
Practice education and leadership and management fall into the Specialist and Advanced Awards.
